Alex joined NorthWall in 2017. He is a Founding Partner and Portfolio Manager, and sits on the firm’s Investment Committee.
After starting his career as an attorney at Freshfields and Sullivan and Cromwell, Alex helped set up JP Morgan’s Global Special Opportunities Group (“GSOG”) in 2010. GSOG was set up as the principal proprietary investment business of JPMorgan Investment Bank with an allocation of approximately $5bn of the bank’s capital for deployment in complex private credit and equity investments. In 2014, he was part of a core team that spun out of the GSOG business to Bain Capital. At Bain Capital, he was a senior member of the investment team of Bain Capital Credit Europe, which was responsible for deploying a portion of the ~$30bn of global Bain Capital Credit AUM in European opportunities.
Alex’s responsibilities at GSOG, and its successor at Bain Capital, included the analysis, structuring, execution, and management of private credit, secondary stressed and distressed, and private equity investments, as well as the development of the origination network in Europe. His responsibilities also included managing junior members of the team and he participated in investment committee meetings in the capacity of head of structuring and execution (ex-Asia). Alex was also involved in developing and implementing best practices and processes, as well as portfolio level risk assessment and management.
As an investment professional, Alex has successfully executed many complex investments across primary credit, secondary stressed and distressed credit, structured/quasi-equity, and private equity, including those at North Wall. He has also worked on the successful restructuring of multiple assets.
Prior to his career as a credit analyst/investment professional, Alex was a lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell (2005 – 2010) and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (2003 – 2005), specializing in finance, capital markets, and M&A. Alex’s principal clients included Goldman Sachs European Special Situations Group and Whitehall (real estate) funds..
Alex holds a BA and MA from the University of Cambridge (2002) and a post-graduate degree from the University of Oxford (2003). He speaks several South Asian languages fluently, and has a basic knowledge of French, German and Russian.
